A solid eighteen carat pink, or rose gold, large cased manually wound Omega dress watch. This is an exceptionally handsome piece and in a fairly large for the period size case. Most watches from this period we between thirty to thirty three millimeters in size, but this case measures just over thirty four, not including the crown.
The manually wound watch is powered by the Omega calibre 265, seventeen jewel movement. This caliber derived form the 30T2 movement, part of the Omega 30mm series. After 1949, Omega changed their movement nomenclature and the same movements have three digit caliber numbers in the 260 and 280 ranges. This is also a fairly large sized caliber that could not have been cased in anything less than a thirty three millimeter case. Fairly simple in its design and layout, but very handsome in its own right. It is, however, very durable, easy to service, and very reliable. A number of these movements, the 30T2 RG, were even developed as chronometer grade versions.
The watch is in exceptional condition. The case is unpolished with very clean and sharp lines throughout, still featuring a pair of crisp, un-rubbed, hallmarks on each side of its lugs. The case back is fully signed Omega, with model number 14715 and movement serial number stamped onto the bridge. This watch, with an 18.6 million movement number, dates it to 1961, hence the newer movement calibre.
The metallic cross hair dial is beautiful and very clean looking, really catching the light. The hours are marked out via a series of classic pink gold stick markers with black enamel applied to the tops. There is the added complication of the subsidiary seconds dial, also cross hair in design, which replaces the six o'clock hour marker. Below this it is signed "Swiss Made". There are some very small marks to the dial from age, but are not noticeable to the naked eye, and are mentioned for transparency. The original eighteen carat pink gold hands and also have black enamel filling the space in the center to make them easier to track with the eye.
This is a very beautiful and unusual reference in superb condition. It would look very much at home under a dress shirt sleeve as it would with a polo shirt and chinos, such is its simplicity and clean nature. The condition is also superb for a watch now over sixty years of age.
